According to an article in the Deseret News on May 7th, called Filthy rich by S.N. Gooch --

In truth, composting is a complex mix of materials working together to break down into nutrient-rich soil. Certainly, compost has grass clippings and scrap, but it also includes water, dry plant matter (such as straw or sawdust) and animal manure.
"If you have chickens, you can use the chicken manure and straw in your compost pile, "says Tina Cerling, buyer manager for Western Garden Centers. "When that's all composted, it's a wonderful addition to your garden beds.
